Can
I earn enough part time money during study?
Don’t worry boss…you
can earn enough money towards living expenses while studying
in New Zealand. You may not be able to buy a brand new Ferrari
but at least you don’t have to call Mummy and Daddy
every month for pocket money. Once you leave, they will
probably be happy they got rid of you in the first place
anyways, so you don’t have to become a monthly pain
in the #*% again.
This is how much you can earn while you are a student in
New Zealand:
There are 52 weeks in the
year (365/7 = 52 weeks). Out of these, for 46 weeks you
can work 20 hours per week and 40 hours for the rest of
the 6 weeks. These 6 weeks are normally the Christmas and
New Year vacation. The minimum wage in New Zealand right
now is $12.50 per hour. This means if anyone pays you less
than this, you can basically kick his ass. Legally…not
literally! Anyway here is the calculation of your earning:
46
weeks X 20 hours X $12.5 = $11,500
6 weeks X 40 hours X $12.5 = $3,000
Total
earning in the year = $14,500
TOTAL
earning per month = $1208 = Rs.37,448 approximately @ Rs.31
per NZ$
Now
for the bad news…the expenses per month:
Rent
= $350 (If you are sharing a flat with a couple of friends)
Food = $50 (Yes, provisions are very cheap and won’t
cost more than this)
Travel = $50 (You can get student discount on travel)
Phone = $50 (Use SMS more than voice to save more and don’t
call Mummy everyday)
Misc = $100 (Girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. But make her/him
pay and try to save this)
Tax = $200 (Shit happens man. Can’t escape it)
TOTAL expense per month = $800 = Rs.24,800 approximately
See,
you can earn enough to live quite comfortably while studying.
The balance $408 (Rs.12,648) can perhaps be used
to pay the interest if you have taken a student
loan in India.
All calculations above are based on real facts and you can
verify this with anyone studying in New Zealand right now.
If you think we are bullshitting you with these calculations,
we can even give you email ids of some of our own students
and they will tell you whether this is true or false.
Warning: Some stupid consultants
will tell you that you can actually earn a lot of money
while you are studying. The only way you can do this is
if you bunk classes and work full time which is ILLEGAL.
So you be careful about these jokers because they will tell
you anything to make you a client. If you get caught working
more than the legal hours as a student you can get into
serious trouble with the NZ authorities. They can even revoke
your student visa and send you back home. We can imagine
how popular you will be with Daddy then!
So be good boys and girls and only stick to what your student
visa permits. You will be safe and never be sorry. Focus
on your studies and you will earn enough as soon as you
graduate, get your 12 months
work permit and move into legal full-time work.
